The passage below is from an address titled “A Theology of Creation” delivered by Patriarch Ignatius IV of Antioch (1920-2012) in 1989 in Zurich, Switzerland. Some churches in the United States used this translation as a reading this weekend. Underneath is a translation into French, but not exactly as he delivered it. Read more HERE. — MCM

Today the mirror of Narcissus is breaking up. The maternal sea is polluted, the heavens are rent, the forests are being destroyed and the deserts are increasing. We must protect creation. Better yet, we must embellish it, render it spiritual, transfigure it. But nothing will be done unless there is a general conversion of humans’ minds and hearts.
