“It is difficult to get a man to understand something,” Upton Sinclair said, “when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”

“An Inconvenient Truth,” the 2006 documentary film featuring, among other people, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, leads off with Sinclair’s quote, which is as fitting for getting why so many Americans around that time just couldn’t see why any alternative to the government narrative about the mass murders of Sept. 11, 2001, was needed  — especially so many Americans in the news business.
